The Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) is increasing its effectiveness by focusing on connecting employers to faculty. Students are less likely to attend “stand alone” events and they often miss opportunities to connect with employers because of all the demands on their time. By connecting employers more to the classroom, CCPD believes more students will develop the “real world” knowledge and skills they need to thrive after their time at UMW. Please take a moment to review the menu of tools and resources we have to better connect you to our amazing students.
UMW Fall 2021/Spring 2022 Recruiting Options
Post a Job or Internship: Handshake is UMW’s official job and internship database. Handshake allows you the opportunity to create an employer profile, post part-time and full-time jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities, view student and alumni resumes, post events, and message our students. It is free for both employers and students to use. For more information, visit our Handshake Overview Page and click on the ‘Employers’ tab.
Present to a Class or Student Group about your Organization: Speaking to classes and student groups is a great way to educate students about your organization and the many available opportunities. Your organization’s name and information can be added to a list of employer contacts for faculty members to choose from for virtual or in-person class presentations. (Note: The need for employer speakers is dependent upon the willingness of faculty and/or student groups to allow guest speakers in their classrooms.) If you are interested in this option, please complete our Recruitment Interest Form.
Host Informational Interviews: Many faculty members are interested in connecting their students with employers for informational interviews. Informational interviews give you the opportunity to speak to students about your organization and gives students the opportunity to explore their area of interest. If you are interested in this option, please complete our Recruitment Interest Form.
Create a Video about your Organization: The pandemic showed us that students love quick and informative videos! Create a brief video about your organization and we will feature it on our Youtube page and send it to relevant faculty and classes. If you are interested in this option, please complete our Recruitment Interest Form.
Table On Campus: The University Center provides a great location to table on campus during the semester. We recommend tabling during lunch hours and bringing materials and branding items that are eye-catching. If you are interested in this option, please complete our Recruitment Interest Form. (Note: Tables may not be available on your preferred date(s) and times as tables are used by other offices/student groups on campus).
Connect with Students Online: Joining our social media accounts is a great way to reach out to students.
