Business Executive and University of Mary Washington alumnus Lou Marmo ’94 will be the school’s Commencement Ceremony speaker on Saturday, May 9, 2026.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>

Business executive Lou Marmo’s career has spanned education, human resources, finance, and additional leadership positions. He has served as a chief financial officer, chief operating officer, or chief executive officer for multiple organizations, often stepping in during pivotal moments that required adaptability and decisive leadership. As a 1994 business administration graduate from then Mary Washington College, he credits Mary Washington with shaping not only his career, but his lifelong relationships, perspective, and sense of community.<\/p>

After his graduation, Marmo started with a company where he had interned, briefly pivoted into education as a substitute teacher and coach, before going back to the business world. While finishing his MBA at night, he worked in HR, then finance, and added Wall Street to his resume. Then he found a mentor that he admired, who helped him advance into a CFO role.<\/p>

During a brief retirement in 2022, he joined the UMW Foundation board, helping advance it’s mission to support the University and provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. He continues to serve on the UMW Foundation Board of Trustees, is a board member for FirmaPak, portfolio company of Shore Capital Partners, and serves on the Board of Trustees for The Frances Foundation for Kids Fighting Cancer.<\/p>

He recently concluded an interim CFO role for a manufacturing company in Pittsburgh and joined Green Air, a commercial HVAC business in Ashland, Virginia, as COO at the end of April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
