Phil Summers is currently the Executive Director of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association serving over 180,000 youth players and coaches in Virginia and the District of Columbia. In this role, he is responsible for administration, marketing, sponsorships, communications and financial controls for all of VYSA’s programs and VYSA’s new $16,000,000 soccer complex recently opened in Fredericksburg, VA.
Mr. Summers comes to VYSA from Cablevision Systems in New York City where he served in various senior marketing and sponsorship sales roles. Recently, he held the position of Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services for MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s regional high school sports television network. Prior to MSG Varsity, Phil served as Senior Director of Sports Marketing for Sirius Satellite Radio where he managed partnerships with the NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA. Earlier, he spent nine years as the Senior Director of Marketing and Sales at the National Football League where he managed marketing and sponsorship for various properties most notably, NFL Sunday Ticket the out of market subscription television service. Phil been recognized by the sports television industry for his advertising and marketing accomplishments winning two Emmy Awards (2010 and 2011) and three Addy Awards, one in 1998 (NFL) and two in 2013 (MSG Varsity). Phil holds a BA from Wagner College in NY and a Master’s Degree from the City University of New York.
A lifelong soccer enthusiast, Phil has served the soccer community for over 18 years as a volunteer coach, referee and club administrator in Eastern New York. Phil is a certified referee and holds a USSF National “C” coaching license.
