Visiting Asst Prof - Physics
Academic Degrees
My name is Rasha Makkia and I am a new Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. I graduated from an integrated PhD and MS program in Biomedical Physics in the Department of Physics at East Carolina University (ECU). After graduation, I received a post-doctoral training in the Department of Radiation Oncology at University of California-Irvine (UCI). During my graduate study at ECU, I greatly enjoy teaching Physics at all levels and I always have an emphasis on developing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, using various teaching methods, such as flipped classroom pedagogy. My previous post-doctoral experience at UCI has helped me to shape my future research endeavors that revolve around the use of the developed computational human models for radiation dosimetry and radiation risk assessment. In my free time, I enjoy walking, running, biking, exploring new neighborhoods, and trying new restaurants.
