{"id":198,"date":"2016-06-01T13:00:04","date_gmt":"2016-06-01T17:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/?page_id=198"},"modified":"2016-06-01T13:00:04","modified_gmt":"2016-06-01T17:00:04","slug":"merit-curriculum-scholarship-appeal-process","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid-test\/eligibility\/merit-curriculum-scholarship-appeal-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Merit and Curriculum Scholarship Appeal Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><p>This appeal process is for students that have not been renewed for a merit-based scholarship or curriculum award based on unmet renewal criteria. &nbsp;The following awards may be affected:<\/p><ul>\n<li>Presidential<\/li>\n<li>Presidential Honors<\/li>\n<li>Blue and Gray<\/li>\n<li>Collegiate<\/li>\n<li>Aerie<\/li>\n<li>Eagle<\/li>\n<li>Talon<\/li>\n<li>Transfer<\/li>\n<li>International<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>While each of these scholarships has a unique set of renewal criteria, the most common reasons for non-renewal are not meeting GPA requirements, moving to off campus for housing, not meeting enrollment criteria, etc.<\/p><p>Students are permitted to appeal the loss of a merit scholarship; however, the right to appeal must be based on extraordinary, personal circumstances that contributed to the student&rsquo;s inability to meet the renewal requirements. Acceptable circumstances include:<\/p><ul>\n<li>The death of an immediate family member (i.e. mother, father, sibling, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparent)<\/li>\n<li>A serious, documented injury or illness<\/li>\n<li>Significant, unanticipated family obligations due to medical issue or illness<\/li>\n<li>A catastrophic loss due to fire, flood, or natural disaster that affects the student&rsquo;s academic attendance or performance<\/li>\n<li>Documented incident within the residence hall<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Please note: Appeals for housing (moving off campus) generally will only result in the commuter equivalent of when you started at UMW.&nbsp; In some cases this may result in no award.<\/strong><\/p><p>To appeal, students may complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com\/casAuthentication.ashx?InstID=a865adc6-8f77-4fb5-918d-9ecc2a2ae697&amp;targetURL=https%3a%2f%2fdynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com%2fSubmit%2fStart%2f999ea81a-9587-4dc4-b954-e087039be095\">Merit &amp; Curriculum Scholarship Appeal Form<\/a> through the financial aid forms page.<\/p><p>If reinstated, awards are not retroactive. The award will be reinstated for the current or upcoming semesters based on the determination made by the Scholarship committee.
