The Foundation manages both endowed and non-endowed funds that are awarded through the <a href=\"http:\/\/umw.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scholarship Application<\/a>. The Scholarship Application is open to all Mary Washington students admitted through the Office of Admissions. The application process for 2026-2027 opens February 1st and closes May 15th. Students are encouraged to speak with their departments to determine their deadline dates for the application as these may differ from the May 15th global deadline. Both academic merit and financial need may be factors in the selection process (based on the wishes of the scholarship donor). To receive consideration for need-based scholarships, you must <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">file the FAFSA<\/a> in addition to competing the scholarship application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Departmental Scholarships and Awards<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>Most academic departments award a variety of scholarships each year. Each Department selects recipients from students that have declared majors in their specific discipline. Scholarship opportunities for each academic department can be applied for through the UMW <a href=\"http:\/\/umw.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Online Scholarship Manager<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Scholarships for UMW Employee Children<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>Scholarships are available for UMW employee\u2019s children. In order to be eligible for this opportunity, students will want to submit the <a href=\"http:\/\/umw.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scholarship Application<\/a>. Scholarships are also available for incoming students that choose not to submit test scores. For more information regarding the selection process, please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/meet-us\/\">Office of Admission<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/\">s<\/a> and visit the Admissions Merit Scholarships webpage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recipients of a merit-based, Transfer or International awards must complete the  First Year scholarship acceptance, Transfer Scholarship acceptance or International acceptance certificate in their admissions (Slate) portal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/first-year-admission\/firstyear-scholarships\/\">First Year Scholarships<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/transfer\/transfer-scholarships\/\">Transfer Scholarships<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/international\/international-scholarships\/\">International Scholarships<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Washington and Alvey Programs<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>These endowed scholarship programs equate to the cost of tuition, fees, room and board. Please be careful when applying for scholarships online. Make sure the information and offers you receive are legitimate; and remember that you don\u2019t have to pay to find scholarships or other financial aid. Scholarship checks should be sent to the <a href=\"http:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/cashier\/\">Office of the Cashiers<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Per the <strong>National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)<\/strong> Division III Bylaw 15.2.3.5.1 it is not permissible for a student-athlete to receive financial aid, directly or indirectly, from a source outside the institution (e.g., a foreign government, a sports association, a high school booster club) for expenses related to attendance at a member institution, if the award of such financial aid is based in any degree upon the recipient\u2019s athletics leadership, ability, participation or performance, except as permitted in Bylaw <a href=\"https:\/\/web3.ncaa.org\/lsdbi\/bylaw?bylawId=6840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">15.2.3.5<\/a>.
