{"id":1367,"date":"2023-11-02T10:20:48","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T14:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/?page_id=1367"},"modified":"2026-04-01T08:57:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T12:57:03","slug":"summer-aid","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/process\/summer-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-summer-financial-aid-process\">Summer Financial Aid Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students must complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com\/casAuthentication.ashx?InstID=a865adc6-8f77-4fb5-918d-9ecc2a2ae697&amp;targetURL=https%3a%2f%2fdynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com%2fSubmit%2fStart%2f7a5c8b84-3f35-4f33-8572-efa7d03cdf41\">Summer Financial Aid Application<\/a> (available April through June)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review of requests begin in mid-April<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will receive approval an e-mail regarding their eligibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awards can be viewed through the student Financial Aid portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disbursements occur throughout the summer sessions based on a student\u2019s enrollment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students may take courses at another institution as long as UMW is the student\u2019s home university. If this is the case, they will need to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com\/casAuthentication.ashx?InstID=a865adc6-8f77-4fb5-918d-9ecc2a2ae697&amp;targetURL=https%3a%2f%2fdynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com%2fSubmit%2fStart%2f1b5ec3e7-7542-4cb9-af8d-617fa54b4eb3\">Request for Consortium Agreement form<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com\/casAuthentication.ashx?InstID=a865adc6-8f77-4fb5-918d-9ecc2a2ae697&amp;targetURL=https%3a%2f%2fdynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com%2fSubmit%2fStart%2f7a5c8b84-3f35-4f33-8572-efa7d03cdf41\">Summer Financial Aid Application<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-s-ummer-financial-aid-eligibility\"><strong>S<\/strong>ummer Financial Aid Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/process\/eligibility\/satisfactory-academic-progress\/\">Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)<\/a><\/strong>: Progress is checked after professors submit grades in May.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enrollment:<\/strong> Please keep in mind that changes in enrollment may cause changes in financial aid eligibility. At minimum, students must be enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credits during the summer semester to receive financial aid (unless they have unused Pell eligibility from fall\/spring semesters).\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you plan to drop or withdraw from a class after the official add\/drop period has ended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-types-of-summer-financial-aid\">Types of Summer Financial Aid<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Federal Financial Aid (Direct Student\/Parent Loans\/Federal Pell Grant)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student must have completed the current year FAFSA<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students may be eligible for Federal Direct Student Loans if they have&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;used their maximum amount in the Fall and\/or Spring semesters. Per year maximums are:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Year<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Credits Earned<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Dependent<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Independent<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Freshman<\/td><td>1- 29<\/td><td>$5,500<\/td><td>$9,500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sophomore<\/td><td>30 &#8211; 59<\/td><td>$6,500<\/td><td>$10,500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Junior\/Senior<\/td><td>60+<\/td><td>$7,500<\/td><td>$12,500<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Graduate<\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td>$20,500<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Year-round Pell will be available to eligible students for 2025-2026 award year.&nbsp; Eligible students receive up to 150 percent of a regular Federal Pell Grant Award over the course of the academic year (Fall, Spring, and Summer).&nbsp; To be eligible to receive the additional Pell Grant funds, the student must be otherwise eligible to receive Pell Grant funds for the payment period and must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parents may apply for a Parent Plus Loan at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/plus-app\/parent\/landing\">https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Private Educational Loans<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student must meet eligibility criteria for chosen educational loan, and complete the loan process through that loan lender.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For some lenders, students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmselect.com\/v4\/school\/717\/program-select\">elmselect.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Scholarships or other Financial Aid<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are a limited number of grants and scholarships available during the summer semester.
