Here are simple timelines and important dates to help keep students and families on track. Submitting financial aid information <strong>before<\/strong> the published FAFSA and Verification deadlines will ensure that students receive the maximum amount of financial aid.<\/p><p>Submitting the FAFSA and other Verification documentation <strong>after<\/strong> the FAFSA and Verification deadlines may result in:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Loss of eligibility for limited state grant funds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delay in processing leading to a billing late fee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delay in refund<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fafsa-filing-deadlines\">FAFSA Filing Deadlines<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Incoming Freshmen Students: March 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transfer Students (First Year): April 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All UMW Continuing Students: March 1<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-online-scholarship-application\">Online Scholarship Application<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Opens February 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closes May 15 (Some scholarships have an earlier deadline of April 1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If selected for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/process\/verification\/\">FAFSA verification<\/a> and applying for UMW Foundation Scholarships, all documentation must be submitted by June 1st. Otherwise, you must submit the&nbsp;verification documents no later than July 1st for the&nbsp;financial aid to be applied to your bill on time.<\/li>\n<\/ul><div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\">\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">First Year Financial Aid Timeline<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Prior to October 1<\/td><td>Students and parents of dependent students: Create a Federal Student Aid ID, so that you can complete your <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/fsa-id\/create-account\/launch\">FAFSA<\/a> after October 1 of the year prior to admission.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>October 1<\/td><td><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a> available!<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>February 1<\/td><td><a href=\"https:\/\/umw.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com\">UMW Online Scholarship Manager<\/a> open. Apply for UMW Scholarships!<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>March 1<\/td><td>FAFSA Deadline: Apply by this date to receive the max amount of financial aid for which you are eligible. FAFSA&rsquo;s will still be accepted after the March 1 deadline. All undergraduate students continue to be eligible for federal Direct Student Loans, and Federal Grants.
