The Financial Aid Office coordinates the hiring process for each of these positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be eligible for student employment, a student must be enrolled at least half time (6 credits for undergraduate students or 5 credits for graduate students) and in a degree-seeking program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For summer employment, a student must be in a degree-seeking program, at least half-time enrollment in the previous spring term and at least half-time enrollment in the following fall term. Enrollment during the summer is not a requirement for summer employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-advantages-of-student-employment\">Advantages of Student Employment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaining practical experience is essential for students to develop the skills needed into today&#8217;s workplace.  As a student employee, there are opportunities to build professional relationships within the campus community. These type of connections can produce mentorships, internships, and possible future job opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student employee supervisors understand students are students first.  Most supervisors permit a flexible work schedule to accommodate a student&#8217;s academic studies which allow the student to focus on their academic success while obtaining real world experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-types-of-student-employment\">Types of Student Employment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\">\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">On Campus Employment<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>On campus student employment consists of part-time jobs within individual departments. Student employees will typically work between 10-15 hours per week. These positions may be funded through <strong>Institutional Funding<\/strong> or <strong>Federal Work Study Funding.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UMW Dining employment is <strong>not<\/strong> part of Student Employment.  Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/umw.sodexomyway.com\/\">UMW Dining<\/a> website for more information. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Off Campus Community Service Employment<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>Off campus student employment is comprised of part-time jobs performing community service work as Student Aides. Job duties may include serving as a reading tutor or math tutor in local schools or public libraries. To be eligible for community service employment, students must qualify for <strong>Federal Work Study<\/strong> (FWS) funding.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\">\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Federal Work Study and Institutional Study<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p><strong>Federal Work Study<\/strong> (FWS) is funded by the federal government. To be considered, a student must have completed a current FAFSA, have unmet financial need, meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/process\/eligibility\/satisfactory-academic-progress\/\"><strong>Satisfactory Academic Progress<\/strong> (SAP)<\/a> requirements, and be enrolled at least half time (6 credits per semester).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Institutional Study<\/strong> (IS) is funded solely by the university. Non-FWS jobs do not have the same GPA and academic progress requirements; however, some departments may have their own GPA and academic progress requirements. A student must be enrolled at least half time (6 credits for undergraduate students or 5 credits for graduate students) and in a degree-seeking program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*The student must still apply for a job and be hired to utilize either the FWS funding or IS funding. Student employees are paid by direct deposit into their <strong>own<\/strong> banking\/financial institution.
