The process for using merit scholarships for study abroad programs can be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/financialaid\/eligibility\/study-abroad\">accessed here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The scholarship may not be used by students participating in an internship in which the student resides off campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The recipient must maintain the following yearly grade point averages to retain a merit scholarship:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Earned Credit Hours (\u201c<strong>Earned Credit Hours<\/strong>\u201d are credit hours earned only at UMW)<\/th><th>&nbsp; Yearly GPA Requirement<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>1-32 &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/td><td>2.5<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>33-64<\/td><td>2.75<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>65+<\/td><td>3.0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Should the recipient be placed on social or administrative probation, or be found guilty of an Honor Code violation, the scholarship will be withdrawn, and charges to the student shall be adjusted according to the University\u2019s refund policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should the recipient withdraw during the academic year, an adjustment in the amount of the scholarship will be made according to the University\u2019s refund policy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Merit Scholarship Appeal Process<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>This appeal process is for students that have not been renewed for a merit-based scholarship or curriculum award based on unmet renewal criteria. &nbsp;The following awards may be affected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Presidential, Provost, Aerie, Blue &amp; Gray, Collegiate, Eagle, International, Presidential, Provost, Talon, Top Dollar, Transfer &amp; Washington &amp; Alvey Scholarships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While each of these scholarships has a unique set of renewal criteria, the most common reasons for non-renewal are not meeting <strong><em>GPA<\/em><\/strong> requirements, <strong><em>moving to off campus for housing<\/em><\/strong>, not meeting <strong><em>enrollment<\/em><\/strong> criteria, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are permitted to appeal the loss of a merit scholarship; however, the right to appeal must be based on extraordinary, personal circumstances that contributed to the student\u2019s inability to meet the renewal requirements. Acceptable circumstances include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The death of an immediate family member (i.e. mother, father, sibling, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandparent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A serious, documented injury or illness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significant, unanticipated family obligations due to medical issue or illness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A catastrophic loss due to fire, flood, or natural disaster that affects the student\u2019s academic attendance or performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documented incident within the residence hall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color\"><strong>Please note: Appeals for housing (moving off campus) generally will only result in the commuter equivalent of when you started at UMW.&nbsp; In some cases this may result in no award.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To appeal, students may complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com\/casAuthentication.ashx?InstID=a865adc6-8f77-4fb5-918d-9ecc2a2ae697&amp;targetURL=https%3a%2f%2fdynamicforms.ngwebsolutions.com%2fSubmit%2fStart%2f999ea81a-9587-4dc4-b954-e087039be095\">Merit &amp; Curriculum Scholarship Appeal Form<\/a>&nbsp;through the financial aid forms page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If reinstated, awards are not retroactive. The award will be reinstated for the current or upcoming semesters based on the determination made by the Scholarship committee.
