Last year, Coffman led the creation of <a href=\"http:\/\/education.umw.edu\/tspot\/\">TeacherSpot<\/a>, an open, online teaching community. Users can access methods of best teaching from other College of Education faculty members along with free and open access to resources, teaching tools, webinars and<a href=\"http:\/\/education.umw.edu\/tspot\/the-lesson-bank\/\"> lesson plans<\/a>.<\/p><p>&ldquo;It creates a community of practice for practicing teachers,&rdquo; said Coffman.<\/p><p>Users of TeacherSpot range from UMW graduates to teachers from all over the state.<\/p><p>Coffman is also the coordinator of the<a href=\"http:\/\/umwedtechconference.umwblogs.org\/\"> EdTech Conference<\/a>, an annual event now in its third year that brings together educators, education leaders and those interested in education to learn more about how technology is impacting teaching and learning.<\/p><p>&ldquo;[The College of Education] is always searching for ways we can be more connected with the community of teachers, students and administrators to provide a strong voice for education,&rdquo; said Coffman.<\/p><p>Coffman recently published a<a href=\"https:\/\/rowman.com\/ISBN\/9781610488518\"> book<\/a> that focuses on integrating technology into a classroom setting to develop critical thinkers in the 21st century.<\/p><p>&ldquo;I try to keep active in my field because it&rsquo;s important for me to know what&rsquo;s happening and bring it back to my students,&rdquo; said Coffman, who also gives instructional presentations several times a year and participates on advisory boards for academic journals and books.<\/p><p>&ldquo;There is never a dull moment in Dr. Coffman&rsquo;s class; her energy and enthusiasm gets every student excited about technology,&rdquo; said Olivia Costello, a master&rsquo;s of education student. &ldquo;She not only teaches how to use new forms of technology, but also teaches how to integrate those tools into a classroom in a way that enhances student learning.&rdquo;<\/p><p><em>Photos by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/about-us\/meet-the-interns\/\">Kimmie Barkley &rsquo;14 <\/a>and story by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/about-us\/meet-the-interns\/\">Julia Davis &rsquo;15<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Teresa Coffman shows her education graduate students how to integrate technology into the classroom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":63,"featured_media":11011,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"umw_cb_additional_links":[[]],"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_advisory_expires_time":"","_advisory_meta_include":false,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[13,68],"class_list":{"0":"post-10971","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-show","8":"tag-education","9":"tag-teresa-coffman","10":"entry"},"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
