We need official stewards – 60 of them – to pull off this event.<\/h2>

What’s a steward?<\/strong> Stewards are volunteers who oversee participation during Guinness World Records events. Guinness World Records requires that organizations have one steward per 50 participants. With a goal of 2,500 people performing the jumping high-five, UMW is creating a team of 60 stewards to ensure full compliance. In addition, stewards must come from outside the University of Mary Washington (i.e. students, faculty, staff and alumni are not eligible to participate as stewards).<\/p>

Note: UMW was originally told that alumni could volunteer as stewards but has since been notified that alumni are not considered independent of the university and may NOT serve as stewards.<\/em><\/p>

What do stewards do during the event?<\/strong> Each steward is assigned to a specific group of 50 participants and is responsible for supervising them during the event to ensure compliance during the actual record attempt. Each steward gets an official event T-shirt.<\/p>
