Reframing Success<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Arriving at the University of Mary Washington from Ireland, Matthew Clinton \u201926 planned to study computer science. But sometimes the best discoveries happen when you decide to change course. Clinton, now a senior communication and digital studies major, found his true calling as a visual storyteller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His pivot opened doors he never expected, including a role as content creator for University Communications. During his video production internship, he conceived, shot and edited \u201cGlobal Perspectives: The International Student Experience at UMW,\u201d<\/a> a four-part video series that earned him a \u201cBest Content Creator\u201d award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe internship was a great way to learn more about the industry and opportunities that my newly gained skills could open up for me,\u201d Clinton said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raven Jackson, a consultant who works with UMW students each semester, praised Clinton\u2019s dedication, saying \u201che takes feedback seriously, and it shows in his work. He\u2019s very passionate about his craft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clinton has continued building on that experience by supporting Mary Washington\u2019s recently launched podcast, What Matters Most With President Paino<\/a><\/em>, by editing and producing episodes. The role draws on skills he developed during his internship and in the classroom, further expanding his portfolio in digital media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a rugby player and social media manager for the team, he captured and edited gameplay footage. When injuries sidelined him, he pivoted to livestream commentary and technical support during games \u2013 turning a setback into a new opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clinton aims to run his own video production company one day, combining his athletic background and media expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat an honor,\u201d he said. \u201cThis experience has greatly impacted my life professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
