After hauling in luggage and setting up beds, tired – and sometimes teary – family members gathered in the University Center to pour their emotions onto paper last week.
The Mary Wash Move-In Day First Letter Campaign for Parents and Families was conceived to ensure incoming freshmen have a piece of mail waiting for them on the first day of classes.
Moms and dads, grandparents and siblings penned letters of hope and assurance, comfort and confidence, onto cards provided by the UMW Post Office. Before signing their notes and sealing their envelopes, some shared their sentiments:
Dear Maggie,
Make the most of every minute and enjoy the journey.
Love, Mom
Dear Paige,
I can’t wait to hear how your day is going, and if you need to vent, I’m here.
Love, your sister, Julia
Dear Aisling,
Live a big life. I love you much.
Love, Nana
Dear “Mads,”
You are so ready for this. I believe in you and your unlimited potential.
Love, Mom
Dear Victoria,
From the first college we toured to the last … we knew that this was the place for you.

Dear Rebecca,
Can’t wait to see how much you will mature over the next four years!

Love, Mom
