They spoke not only in the classroom but also on Virginia Humanities\u2019 <em>With Good Reason<\/em> radio program, bringing knowledge and insight to listeners across the national airwaves.<\/p>\n<p>Through its collaboration with the program, UMW reached more than 100,000 listeners on 133 radio stations across Virginia, Washington, D.C., and 38 states, with thousands more tuning in online and through iTunes. Since last summer, several Mary Washington faculty members were featured on <em>With Good Reason<\/em>, illustrating the depth and range of UMW scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the thought-provoking topics UMW faculty explored:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/education-for-everyone\/\"><strong>Education for Everyone (Literacy in Special Education)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Sean McDonald, assistant professor of education, reveals the lesser-known cultural and psychological factors that have a big impact on reading comprehension. (Aug. 22, 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/greenwashing\/\"><strong>Corporate Greenwashing (Greenwashing)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Kimberley Kinsley, senior lecturer in business, breaks down how misleading \u201cgreen\u201d claims can shape consumer behavior, using one company\u2019s \u201cclean diesel\u201d deception, and the resulting \u201cDieselgate\u201d scandal, as a case study. (July 11, 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/brightness\/\"><strong>Brightness (Our Stories, Ourselves)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Margaret Meehan, adjunct instructor of art, remixes and explores classic nursery rhymes and fairy tales in ceramics to ask who we are taught to fear \u2013 and to respect. (June 20, 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/beyond-the-embargo\/\"><strong>Beyond the Embargo (La Picadora)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Krystyn Moon, professor of history and American studies, examines La Picadora, a Cuban farming community whose sustainability practices were born out of economic crisis. (May 30, 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/the-games-afoot\/\"><strong>The Game\u2019s Afoot (The Pact of Forgetting)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Antonia Delgado-Poust,\u00a0associate professor of Spanish, explains how Spanish women\u2019s detective fiction of the 1990s and 2000s wrestled with the country\u2019s political legacy of injustice. (March 21, 2025)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/christmas-stories\/\"><strong>Christmas Stories (Bah Humbug)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Eric Lorentzen, professor of English, discusses how Dickens\u2019 focus on childhood in\u00a0<em>A Christmas Carol\u00a0<\/em>has echoed across popular culture. (Dec. 20, 2024)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/episode\/baby-babble\/\"><strong>Baby Babble (<\/strong><strong>Bring Your Family to School<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Melissa Wells, associate professor of education, shares children\u2019s books that invite minority families into schools to celebrate their cultural strengths. (Aug. 9, 2024)<\/p>\n<p>As National Podcast Day on Sept. 30 highlights the power of on-demand listening, <em>With Good Reason<\/em> continues to showcase UMW faculty voices to thousands of podcast subscribers nationwide. Hear the program in Fredericksburg Sundays at 2 p.m. on Radio IQ, Saturday mornings on WAMU in Washington, D.C., or anytime at the <a href=\"https:\/\/withgoodreasonradio.org\/\"><em>With Good Reason<\/em><\/a> website and on iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>UMW voices are also part of the local airwaves.
