The University of Mary Washington has once again been named in the top 100 Poets&Quants Best Undergraduate Business Schools, released March 23.<\/p>\n

The 2026 list recognizes 110 universities based on admissions standards, academic experience and career outcomes, drawing on institutional data and alumni feedback. UMW\u2019s placement at 92nd reflects the strength of its academic curriculum, student experience and focus on preparing graduates for meaningful careers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis ranking is a testament to the success of our alumni and our rigorous curriculum, centered on experiential learning, entrepreneurial opportunities and strong regional workforce alignment,\u201d said College of Business Dean Filiz Tabak. \u201cOur students and graduates exemplify the liberal arts approach to business education during their time in our classrooms and throughout their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Poets&Quants methodology, rankings are based on multiple measures designed to capture both academic rigor and real\u2011world outcomes. Within these categories, academic experience and career outcomes come from surveys to recent graduates, with the Class of 2023 responding this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think two years after graduation is an ideal time to ask alumni to evaluate their programs because they\u2019ve had ample time to gauge their degrees\u2019 usefulness, but it\u2019s not so long ago that they\u2019ve forgotten the details of their experience,\u201d the methodology states.<\/p>\n

Mary Washington business alumni said the cost of tuition was worth their experience, giving it a 9 out of 10 ranking, and they also said that their investment of time and resources was worth it, with a score of 9.1 out of 10. UMW was also highlighted by Poets&Quants for one of the biggest jumps in average alumni salary, posting a 12.9% increase.<\/p>\n

Recent class projects have started short-term businesses on campus to test ideas culminating in the newly named Eagle Egg Innovation Pitch Competition. Students solve real-world problems in strategy case competitions and serve as marketing consultants for downtown businesses and the City of Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority. Local businesses seek out students for internships and recruit across the university for graduates.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat sets the UMW College of Business apart is its emphasis on faculty-led research, close student-faculty mentorship and a strong alumni network,\u201d the P&Q write-up for Mary Washington states. \u201cUnlike many institutions with a similar undergraduate-focused model, UMW provides students with the opportunity to collaborate with accomplished faculty members who are active researchers in their fields.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to business administration, the college includes computer science, economics and mathematics, with majors and minors ranging from accounting, cybersecurity and data science to finance, international business, management and entrepreneurship, and marketing.<\/p>\n

The College of Business at UMW is\u00a0accredited by AACSB, the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools and the benchmark of quality for business education worldwide, accrediting only 6% of the world\u2019s schools offering business degrees.<\/p>\n
