Independent assessors review policies, procedures and agency practices to determine compliance with professional law enforcement standards established by VLEPSC.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Made up of the Virginia Sheriffs&rsquo; Association, Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police and Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, VLEPSC provides a statewide framework for measuring and improving law enforcement operations.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMW Police is one of 113 law enforcement agencies statewide accredited by VLEPSC and one of just five college or university police departments on the commission&rsquo;s current list.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"285\" data-attachment-id=\"111325\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/police-accredited-badge\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/10\/police-accredited-badge.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"632,600\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-title=\"\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/10\/police-accredited-badge.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/10\/police-accredited-badge-300x285.jpg\" alt=\"circular police accredited badge\" class=\"wp-image-111325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/10\/police-accredited-badge-300x285.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/10\/police-accredited-badge.jpg 632w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\"><\/figure>\n<\/div><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though formal reaccreditation takes place every four years, maintaining the designation is an ongoing, demanding process. UMW Police personnel regularly review policies, document compliance and compile information for assessors, making accreditation part of the department&rsquo;s day-to-day operations rather than a once-every-four-years review.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&ldquo;That process helps us remain responsive to the needs of our campus and ensures we continue providing the highest level of service possible,&rdquo; Hall said.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hall credited University administrators and the entire police department with supporting the effort, with special recognition for Capt. Bill Gill, First Sergeant Dillon Brooks and Emergency Communications Officer Lee Kimes for their leadership and attention to detail throughout the accreditation
