He held a three-year consultation with the U.S. Naval Academy on a revision of sexual assault and harassment prevention curriculum and worked with the U.S. Army on similar topics. Kilmartin is the author of &ldquo;The Masculine Self,&rdquo; now in its fourth edition, and is the co-author of &ldquo;Men&rsquo;s Violence Against Women: Theory, Research, and Activism&rdquo; and &ldquo;Sexual Assault in Context: Teaching College Men about Gender.&rdquo; The second edition of &ldquo;The Pain Behind the Mask: Overcoming Masculine Depression&rdquo; will be published in spring 2013.<\/p><p>A member of the UMW faculty since 1989, Kilmartin received a doctorate and a master&rsquo;s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in counseling psychology and a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in psychology from Frostburg State College.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usafa.af.mil\/\">U.S. Air Force Academy<\/a>, located in Colorado Springs, Colo., &ldquo;offers a four-year program of instruction and experience designed to provide cadets the knowledge and character essential for leadership, and the motivation to serve as Air Force career officers,&rdquo; according to its website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Christopher Kilmartin, professor of psychology at the University of Mary Washington, has been chosen to serve as a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at the U.S. Air Force Academy.From July 2013 to June 2014, Kilmartin will teach courses in violence prevention and gender studies.
