Anne Timpano, an art historian with more than 20 years’ experience in directing museums, has been named director of the University of Mary Washington Galleries.<\/p>
Timpano earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in art history from The George Washington University, where she received the David Lloyd Kreeger Prize in the History of Art. She spent six years working at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and seven years as director of The Columbus Museum in Columbus, Ga. Since 1993, she has been the director of DAAP Galleries at the University of Cincinnati. In 1997, she developed and began teaching a graduate-level course in museum management at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. She also developed and directed a new graduate certificate program in museum studies, which explores the theory and practice of museum operations.<\/p>
Timpano has served on a myriad of panels and committees and as a juror at many exhibitions and festivals. She has given lectures on such topics as American art and landscape painting. In addition, she is a member of the American Association of Museums, the College Art Association and the Committee on Museum Professional Training of the American Association of Museums.<\/p>
She succeeds the late Tom Somma, who served as director of UMW Galleries for nine years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
