{"id":85337,"date":"2015-01-23T10:03:36","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T15:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/?p=85337"},"modified":"2015-01-23T10:03:36","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T15:03:36","slug":"umw-professor-documents-local-hospital-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/news\/2015\/01\/23\/umw-professor-documents-local-hospital-history\/","title":{"rendered":"UMW Professor Documents Local Hospital History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The storied past of Mary Washington Healthcare has been preserved online, thanks to efforts of University of Mary Washington Professor Jess Rigelhaupt.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The associate professor of history and American studies received a $25,000 grant from Mary Washington Healthcare to record oral history interviews and develop a website that covers the history of the 115-year old organization.<\/p>\n<p>The website <a href=\"http:\/\/mwhchistory.com\/\">mwhchistory.com<\/a>, which launched this month, currently includes more than 35 hours of interviews with longtime administrators, board members, physicians, and nurses with a wealth of knowledge about the local hospital system for the past 30 years. The project is ongoing and will record over 80 hours of interviews with over 40 people when it is completed.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"messaging-history styled-scrollable\"><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: medium\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/117528168\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" frameborder=\"0\" title=\"Jess Rigelhaupt Interviews Dr. J. Thomas Ryan | mwhchistory.com\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe began as an eight-room hospital, and have evolved into a not-for-profit regional system of two hospitals and 28 healthcare facilities and wellness services,\u201d said recently retired President and CEO of Mary Washington Healthcare Fred M. The website includes firsthand accounts of change from a variety of employees, including Diane Brothers, who began working as a nurse at the hospital in 1986 and is now a nursing supervisor and clinical ethics specialist, and Xavier R.
