The University of Mary Washington\u2019s College of Education will merge cutting-edge technology, teaching, engaging speakers and hands-on activities during its fifth annual EdTech Conference<\/a>, taking place Friday, March 20 at the Stafford campus.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\"Teresa-Coffman_featured\"<\/a>With a theme of \u201cLearning, Innovation and Technology,\u201d the 2015 \u00a0conference will offer educators and those interested in education a close look at current technology and its impact in the classroom. The conference will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the North Building on the Stafford campus. Registration closes March 16 and the $50 fee includes all presentations and a catered lunch.\u00a0A reduced $20 conference fee is available for current UMW students.<\/p>\n

Keynote speaker Judi Harris will open the conference with a presentation that demonstrates how to balance technology integration with TPACK (technology, pedagogy and content knowledge) and a well-developed teaching curriculum. Harris is a professor and the Pavey Family Chair in Educational Technology in the School of Education at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.<\/p>\n

EdTech also will have interactive workshops on engaging game-based strategies in the classroom presented by UMW staff Mary Kayler, director of teaching excellence and Lisa Ames, e-learning specialist. Concurrent sessions will allow participants to explore \u00a0innovative teaching models, discover emerging technologies and share new ideas and practices. Each session will provide practical tools and strategies to be incorporated in classrooms and through K-12 education.<\/p>\n

Teresa Coffman, professor in the College of Education, \u00a0and Tami Pratt-Fartro, assistant professor in the College of Education, helped to create the annual conference four years ago with the goal of forming a regional network of educators who come together to share great teaching practices.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conference facilitates interactions and exchanges with K-12 schools,\u201d said Coffman. \u201cIt allows UMW to support a larger educational community and bring real-world knowledge and application into the University.\u201d<\/p>\n
