UMW alumni Robert Davis and Abbas Haider made Forbes\u2019 prestigious \u201c30 Under 30.\u201d The recently released 2018 list celebrates the country\u2019s top young entrepreneurs, innovators and change-makers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty unreal right now,\u201d Haider said soon after learning he and Davis had made the publication. \u201cWe were competing with all the Silicon Valleys and everything. For just a company out of Fredericksburg, Virginia \u2013 just Rob and me \u2013 we\u2019re super excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haider said the two had been receiving congratulatory messages from around the world.<\/p>\n

Now in its seventh edition, Forbes\u2019 30 Under 30<\/em> is an \u201cencyclopedia of creative disruption,\u201d offering \u201can annual opportunity to embrace the optimism, inventiveness and boldness of youth.\u201d The list singles out 30 visionaries in each of 20 industries, from Art & Style and Consumer Tech to Sports and Venture Capital.<\/p>\n

Davis, 27, and Haider, 28, were named among the young leaders in the Manufacturing & Industry category, whose members are \u201ccreating the products, methods and materials of tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both business administration majors who graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2012, the pair owns Aspetto, a downtown Fredericksburg company that offers high-end bulletproof clothing \u2013 think body armor in the form of suits and professional attire \u2013 for men. Clients include the U.S. armed forces, government contractors, NFL players and reality TV stars.<\/p>\n

The life-saving Aspetto clothing line was born in UMW Professor Galen deGraff\u2019s international business strategy class, where Davis and Haider teamed up on an assignment to invent a product or service viable in foreign markets and create a business plan for its success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a great experience at Mary Washington,\u201d Haider said. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to live in the most extreme, most funded, most technologically advanced areas to create something for yourself. It\u2019s how you continue moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aspetto has climbed to the top of the industry, receiving recognition from such publications as Esquire<\/em> and Newsweek, <\/em>generating millions of dollars in revenue, and rising to the top of more than 15,000 nominations from across the country to make Forbes\u2019 30 Under 30<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been an absolute rollercoaster in going through the process of running our own business,\u201d Davis said. \u201cIt\u2019s truly exciting to have this recognition, [but] our objective isn\u2019t going to change. Our vision isn\u2019t going to change. We\u2019re going to keep on innovating.”<\/p>\n
