This morning marked Mary Washington\u2019s 108th Commencement. It\u2019s a time-held tradition that\u2019s signaled the turning of a page, the changing of a chapter, year after year, for more than a century. Still, each class is different. Here are 19 things that set the Class of 2019 apart from the crowd.<\/p>\n

The University of Mary Washington graduated more than 1,000 uniquely UMW students at this morning’s 108th Commencement ceremony.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
    \n
  1. It includes 1,082 undergraduate students<\/li>\n
  2. Most of them started kindergarten in 2002<\/li>\n
  3. Bill Clinton was president when they were born<\/li>\n
  4. They\u2019re Devils, and they won the Devil-Goat Day challenge three out of four times<\/li>\n
  5. They all read\u00a0The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,\u00a0<\/em>the Common Read their first year<\/li>\n
  6. The UMW Classic Crew sweatshirt was the bookstore item they purchased the most<\/li>\n
  7. Four seniors \u2013 the most ever \u2013 received the Darden Award, finishing with a 4.0 GPA<\/li>\n
  8. More than a quarter of this year\u2019s graduates studied abroad<\/li>\n
  9. Most out-of-state students \u2013 31 \u2013 are from Maryland<\/li>\n
  10. The second most out-of-state students \u2013 10 \u2013 hail from New Jersey<\/li>\n
  11. Combined, the graduating athletes garnered 878 wins throughout their college careers<\/li>\n
  12. They won 25 conference championships and advanced to 24 NCAA Championships<\/li>\n
  13. They lay claim to an impressive men\u2019s rugby national title. Go, Eagles!<\/li>\n
  14. They\u2019ll begin careers at top organizations, like NASA, Disney and Deloitte<\/li>\n
  15. They\u2019ll get master\u2019s at, among others, William & Mary, UVA and George Washington University<\/li>\n
  16. They\u2019ve claimed jobs as far away as South Korea, Morocco, Taiwan and the Netherlands<\/li>\n
  17. The student who traveled the longest from home that first year came from Australia<\/li>\n
  18. More than a quarter \u2013 284 of them \u2013 are first-generation college students<\/li>\n
  19. Forty-seven will leave Mary Washington with University Honors<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
