Studio art faculty at the University of Mary Washington are passionate about teaching, but they are also talented and dedicated artists themselves. Selected works from faculty artists are on display through Oct. 8, 2023, at the duPont Gallery on campus.<\/p>\n

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays, and admission is free. There will be an artists\u2019 lecture at 5 p.m. Oct. 5, 2023, at the duPont Gallery.<\/p>\n

The UMW Studio Art Faculty Exhibition<\/em> features 30 pieces in various media, including ceramics, sculpture, painting, photography, mixed media and digital\/video.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to bringing art and artists to campus that engage deeply with students and faculty, celebrate diverse perspectives, and complement our permanent collection,\u201d said Director of UMW Galleries Tracy Stonestreet, who joined UMW\u2019s Department of Art and Art History<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe faculty exhibition is an excellent example of this mission: the range of media and material interests is really incredible. The show reflects the collective talent and critical inquiry of our faculty,\u201d Stonestreet said.<\/p>\n

Added Shannon Petska, exhibition coordinator for UMW Galleries,\u00a0\u201cThe summer is generally a time when the studio faculty are able to focus on creating new works. The pieces in the exhibition, while not necessarily all new works, reflect their area of instruction and\/or personal practice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Faculty artists represented are Lindsey Arturo, Michael Dean, Carole Garmon, Aimee George, Larry Hinkle, Ashe Laughlin, Jon McMillan, Margaret Meehan, Chad Mundie, Miranda Reichhardt, Jason Robinson and Sarah White.<\/p>\n

Besides the faculty exhibit, UMW Galleries is also offering the traveling exhibition The Garden<\/em>, featuring the works of several Virginians including one \u2013 Chris Gregson \u2013 with a studio in Fredericksburg. Other artists are from elsewhere in Virginia, and two are from out of state. Artists Reni Gower and Jorge Benitez of Wylie Contemporary Inc. curated the exhibit and have works included.<\/p>\n

The Garden<\/em> can be seen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays through Oct. 8 at the Ridderhof Martin Gallery; admission is free. A gallery talk with the artists will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Ridderhof Martin.<\/p>\n
