Is Your Student on The Path to Graduation? Degree Works Can Help!
The Office of the Registrar is excited to launch our new degree evaluation system, Degree Works, this Fall. Degree Works offers a wealth of information and tools to guide our students on the path to earning their UMW degrees.
Degree evaluations are a critical component of a student’s success, providing real-time information on completed, in-progress, and unfulfilled degree requirements. Students can run their degree evaluations at any time, but should do so especially:
- at the beginning of each semester;
- prior to meeting with their academic advisor;
- during registration periods; and
- at the end of the semester when final grades are posted.
Degree Works takes degree evaluations to the next level! Not only can students review their degree requirements, they can also see when the specific courses they need to take are being offered. Additionally Degree Works provides students with individualized “still needed” advice so students may quickly identify their missing requirements. If they are interested in a particular course but are not sure how it would apply to their degree, they can plug the course into the “look-ahead” tool to see what requirements the course would fulfill. The degree evaluation also enables students to email their academic advisor directly from the evaluation.
For students who are unsure what major to choose, they can run “what-if” evaluations to explore how their courses would apply to any UMW major. GPA calculators enable students to project their semester GPA and see what they’d need to do to reach their desired overall GPA. Students can even build a four-year plan to map out how the courses they will take will get them to graduation, and then register from that plan during registration periods.
