Recognizing disability as a key component of diversity, the Office of Disability Resources (ODR) has worked to develop an opportunity to build understanding of how practices, policies, attitudes, language, and interactions impact individuals with disabilities.
We are hoping to create a transformative movement: one to promote accountability, accessibility, and inclusivity at UMW that aligns with our ASPIRE Values, while keeping in mind the impact on individuals with disabilities.
The Accessibility 101 Workshop is open to all. Information on what accessibility is and what it means to be accessible will be discussed. The learning outcomes of this workshop include: Furthering one’s understanding to support the disability community through basic examination of your current state, and the development of goals in relation to promoting accessibility. Individuals will be recognized for completing the Accessibility 101 Workshop as “UMW Accessibility Partners.” We are hoping to create our own transformative movement: one to promote accountability, accessibility, and inclusivity at UMW that aligns with our ASPIRE Values and Principles on Diversity and Inclusion.
We would appreciate your help in spreading the word to your students, and helping us reach ODR’s goal to create strong partnerships with all of our community to recognize that accessibility is everyone’s responsibility.
Accessibility Workshop dates for the 2019-2020 academic year will be announced in the fall semester. Additional information on Accessibility 101 (including how to request a workshop) can be found on the Diversity Education Toolkit. For a listing of all of our Accessibility Partners and an accessible version of this presentation, please visit the UMW Accessibility Partners website.
