Updates from the Office of Financial Aid
- Summer Financial Aid: Students may apply for summer financial aid if they are taking courses at UMW or at a host institution by completing the Summer Financial Aid Request Form. Please be advised, if you are enrolling in courses at a host institution a Consortium Agreement in addition to a Course Approval through the Registrar’s Office must be submitted prior. Due to the new regulations regarding the Federal Pell Grant, students may be able to receive a portion of their Pell Grant during the summer semester. In most cases, students must be enrolled in at least six credits during the summer semester.
- 2019-2020 FAFSA Verification Process: Approximately 30% of students that complete the 2019-20 FAFSA are annually selected for the Federal FAFSA Verification Process. This process ensures that the FAFSA contains accurate information. During this process, the Office of Financial Aid is required to collect student and/or family financial information, which is then compared to the information on the FAFSA.
- If you are a continuing student and are selected for Verification for the 2019-2020 Academic Year, all Verification requirements must be satisfied prior to receiving your award package. Students may review any Verification requirements through Banner SSB. Verification documents are due on June 1, 2019. These requirements include (but are not limited to):
- Online Verification Worksheet: This online form requires the student to complete questions regarding their household and income, and then is automatically sent to a parent email address provided by the student. The parent must then confirm their income information and submit the form. The Verification requires that students/parents attach a tax return transcript or complete IRS Data Retrieval through the FAFSA, W-2 wage forms, and other requested information.
- Copy of 2017 IRS Tax Return Transcript: The Transcript is an “official” version of a tax return. This can be ordered free of charge from irs.gov. The Office of Financial Aid is now able to accept signed 1040’s (Individual Tax Returns) as well.
- Copies of 2017 W2’s, 1099’s, or other Wage Statements: These must match the income information provided on the corresponding federal tax returns.
- Student Employment: There are approximately 700 student employment positions across campus. Students may apply through the UMW Careers Portal. Hiring occurs throughout the year. Students are encouraged to reach out to any department for which they are interested in applying, as they would make the actual hiring positions.
