The Career Center has a lot in store for the fall 2019 semester including our Job & Internship Fair, FBI & CIA Information sessions, STEM Speed Networking, and Meet the Accounting Firms!
We need your help!
Please encourage your student to take advantage of these opportunities to network with a variety of employers. Students can register for all events through their Handshake profile under the ‘Events’ and ‘Upcoming Fairs’ tabs. Handshake is a single sign on system, meaning that students can use their UMW Net ID and password to log-in.
And please encourage them to use Handshake! It is their one-stop-shop for all things career-related. The more they use Handshake, the more they will hear of great professional development opportunities from companies around the country.
Fall 2019 Career Center Events
Scribe America Information Table, 9/18
- A representative will be speaking to students about Scribe opportunities in the Fredericksburg area.
Meet the Accounting Firms: 9/18
- This event aims to connect UMW students interested in pursuing a job or internships in accounting with local and regional accounting firms.
Defense Intelligence Agency Information Session: 9/19
- A Recruiter from DIA will be conducting an information session. Learn more about working for this great organization!
STEM Speed Networking: 9/26
- Co-hosted by the UMW Career Center & the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, STEM Speed Networking will allow participants to network with professionals in short intervals making it a great way to develop new connections. This event is for STEM juniors and seniors with above a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Pre-registration is required.
Peace Corps Office Hours & Information Session: 9/30
- A Recruiter and returned volunteer will be hosting office hours and conducting an information session. Pre-registration is required for Office Hours.
Pop Up Career Coaching: 10/9, & 11/7
- Hosted at various locations on campus, students can pop by for a quick, 15 minute chat with a Career Coach
Department of Defense Office Hours & Information Session: 10/18
- A Recruiter for the Department of Defense will be hosting office hours and conducting an information session. Pre-registration is required for Office Hours.
Resume Walk In Days: 10/21 & 10/23
- Students can drop by the Career Center for a 15 minute resume review with a Career Coach or Peer Career Consultant, just in time for the Job Fair on 10/24!
Mutual of Omaha Lunch & Learn: 10/21
- A representative from Mutual of Omaha will be visiting campus to talk about their organization and the numerous opportunities at their organization. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Pre-registration required.
‘From Here to Career’ – A Job Fair Prep Event: 10/22
- Students will learn about resumes, elevator pitches, attire, networking, and more at this pre-fair event. Employers from GEICO, Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, and Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond will be attending. Students who attend will receive early access to the Job & Internship Fair, starting at 10 a.m.
Job & Internship Fair: 10/24
- This event attracts local and regional employers who will be searching to fill full-time and internship positions. There is no cost for students to attend. Business professional dress is required. Students should bring copies of their resumes.
CIA Information Session: 10/24
- A representative from the CIA will be discussing the organization, their Internship program, and taking questions. Pre-registration required.
Other events being planned include GEICO Day, a GEICO site visit, Scribe America On-Campus Interviews, and more! Details on these events will be added to Handshake as they are confirmed.
Parents of first year students: It’s never too early for your student to do some self-assessment. Please suggest they check out our Roadmap Academy. Students accepted into the program will be paired with a Career Coach and will work on career-related assignments from October – April. To apply, students can create our Roadmap Application.
