Appeal Process for Housing Charges<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Students have 5 business days from the date of notification of residence hall charges to appeal. Appeal procedures are detailed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to appeal a residence life charge:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Review the email from Residence Life that contains information about the charge(s) assessed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Review the explanation of Damage Detail Codes<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Review the criteria for appeal:\n
      \n
    1. You believe that the charge was assessed in error (i.e. you reported the damage to your RA or Area Coordinator in writing when you moved in)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. You have information to verify that the damage was caused by someone else (i.e. a signed note from another UMW student taking responsibility for the damage).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Submit the appeal below.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Important Notes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. All appeal requests must be submitted by the UMW student assessed the charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Residence Life staff cannot discuss charges or appeal requests with anyone other than the student without the student\u2019s written consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Once an appeal request is submitted, a decision will be communicated via e-mail within ten business days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. All appeals that are approved will have the charge to the student\u2019s account reversed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n
