In response, the establishment of the Center for Student Transition, Access, &amp; Retention Services in Fall 2024 will extend the university\u2019s reach for providing direct programming and services focused on advocacy and support to strengthen belonging and the success of first-generation, Pell-eligible, and geographically diverse students throughout their entire experience at UMW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through STARS, UMW will be better suited to support a greater number of historically underrepresented students through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased capacity of the Student Transition Program (STP)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pre-arrival financial counseling and ongoing support from a full-time, student-focused financial counselor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased financial support for students with financial need (Pell tuition promise, emergency assistance microgrant funding)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bolstered First-in-Family programming and services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"STARS Center- Lighting the Path to Success at UMW\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zuGdVSe-RyY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
