You\u2019ll challenge yourself with courses in logic, ethics and the legal system while testing your powers of argument through Mary Washington\u2019s renowned mock trial and debate teams. Law firm internships, LSAT study sessions, pre-law advising and more position UMW pre-law alumni to excel at the nation\u2019s top schools of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-degree-awarded\">Degree Awarded<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students majoring in philosophy: pre-law concentration who complete all requirements earn the degree of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in philosophy and religious studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-areas-of-study\">Areas of Study<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many students in UMW\u2019s pre-law program choose to major in philosophy, but even if you decide to pair your pre-law studies with another of our majors \u2013 political science or psychology, for example \u2013 you\u2019ll still study the philosophy of ancient Greece, the early modern era, law, ethics, logic, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, UMW offers the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/careercenter\/students\/graduate-school\/umwgeorge-mason-33-program\/\">3+3 Accelerated Program<\/a>\u201d with George Mason University. It allows highly motivated students a fast track to earn both a bachelor\u2019s degree and a law degree in six, rather than seven, years of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-career-opportunities\">Career Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The pre-law track in philosophy prepares you for entry to law school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-internships\">Internships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cas.umw.edu\/clpr\/undergraduate-research\/\">Department of Classics, Philosophy, and Religion<\/a>&nbsp;offers opportunities to complete research, present at conferences, and make valuable contacts for the professional world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\">\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Honors<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>To graduate with&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cas.umw.edu\/clpr\/philosophy-program\/honors-program\/\">honors<\/a>&nbsp;in philosophy, you must have at least a 3.5 grade-point average in the major. You\u2019ll complete a research project and write and defend a senior thesis.
