Prepare yourself for medical, dental or veterinary school; for careers in physical therapy or pharmacy; for discipline-specific graduate study in the health sciences; or for a meaningful career you can begin right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Degree Awarded<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students majoring in Biomedical Sciences who complete all requirements earn the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Career Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biomedical Sciences major provides students with the knowledge and the skills to be successful candidates for graduate study in a broad range of health-related fields including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, or any of the many health sciences careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.umw.edu\/careercenter\/tools-resources\/what-can-i-do-with-this-major\/biomedical-sciences\">See Career Paths<div class='arrow'><\/div><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UMW biomedical sciences majors may qualify for paid internships through the Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program. The Department of Biological Sciences helps students learn about and apply for internships in the fields of medicine and research. Students also may find internships with health care professionals in the Fredericksburg area or in nearby Richmond, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Many students work and volunteer at nearby Mary Washington Hospital and Moss Free Clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"umw-accordion-container umw-custom-block\" data-only-one=\"true\">\n<div class=\"umw-collapsible-section umw-custom-block\"><div class=\"accordion__question\" data-js-question=\"true\"><button class=\"accordion__question__trigger\" data-js-trigger=\"true\">Honors<\/button><div class=\"accordion__question__answer\">\n<p>To receive honors in biomedical sciences, you must have a 3.0 grade-point average overall and 3.25 in the major.
