(Video coming soon)Dr. Brad Lamphere, Associate Professor, joined the department in 2016. Dr. Lamphere earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and served as a postdoctoral research associate at North Carolina State University. An expert on the ecology and evolution of freshwater fishes, he has published in such journals as Ecology, Ecology of Freshwater Fish, and Molecular Ecology. Dr. Lamphere’s research focuses on how introduced species influence the evolution and ecology of native aquatic life. He teaches BIOL 260-The Research Process, BIOL 322-Animal Ecology, BIOL 425-Vertebrate Zoology, and BIOL 426-Biology of Fishes.
Professor Ashe Laughlin, Art & Art History
Ashe Laughlin is an arts educator and artist who lives in Rapidan, Virginia. He has taught in university settings for over 20 years. Prior to his appointment as Visiting Assistant Professor at UMW, he served as adjunct and then Senior Lecturer of Art at Texas State University from 2001-2015, where he taught drawing, painting, and design courses. Since moving to Virginia in 2015, Ashe has taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Mary Washington. Ashe received a M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York and a BA in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin.
Ashe’s work is focused on painting in oil and acrylic and drawing in conventional media as well as (mixed media) paint pen on multiple layers of plexiglass. His work has been exhibited throughout the US, and he is currently included in a group exhibition titled “Ransome 2” at Wayferers BK gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
Ashe currently serves as a member of the board of directors of the Arts Center of Orange, VA.
