NEW PROGRAMS COMMITTEE
BRIEF MINUTES FROM THE OCTOBER 17,
2001 MEETING
In attendance: Meta Braymer, Phil
Hall, Donald Rallis, and Brenda Vogel.
- Discussed who will attend the
October 23rd and October 30th business leaders
focus groups to take notes/represent our committee.
Donald Rallis will represent us on the 23rd and
Pam Hopkins and Brenda Vogel will represent us
on the 30th.
- Reviewed second drafts of the
employer/business leaders focus group questions
and the survey for prospective students.
Changes and recommendations were made and sent
to Larry the next day.
- Reports on analog schools:
Phil was thanked for his excellent written report
on Johns Hopkins that he had circulated prior
to the meeting. A discussion of Clayton
College and State University and Georgia State
College and University suggested that Clayton
was looking at us as a model and Georgia State
was moving in the opposite direction. Donald
reported on The University of Maryland University
College as a possible distance learning analog.
Donald will send us websites to locate distance
learning schools. For our November meeting,
it was decided that we should look at the webpages
of our recommended possible analogs and decide
if they were useful to pursue. We would
decide in November how to pursue them (e.g., a
call from Phil or Meta to top administrators).
- Mehdi is, indeed, irreplaceable.
After calls to numerous colleagues on the Fredericksburg
campus, all declined our offer to serve in Mehdi's
stead due to already being greatly overextended.
The committee has decided to go forward without
a replacement.
- Archival data: The committee
believes, after comments from Phil and Meta, that
what exists is too old/historical to be useful.
- Tasks for next meeting, Monday,
November 19, 2001, 4 p.m., JMC conference room:
- Reports from Donald, Pam, and
Brenda on business leader focus group sessions.
Reports (preferably written) on individually researched
analog schools.
