NEW PROGRAMS COMMITTEE
BRIEF MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER
17, 2001 MEETING
In attendance: Meta Braymer, Gail
Brooks, Phil Hall, Pam Hopkins, George Meadows,
Donald Rallis, and Brenda Vogel.
Overview of the self-study research
design, contacts overseeing data sources (students,
faculty, etc.), prospective students/business world
research model, timeline for completing self-study.
Further questions to send to data
source contacts were to be identified by September
24th. (See attachment for what was submitted.)
Most of the meeting was spent reviewing
the drafts of the employer focus questions and survey
for prospective students provided by Larry Penwell.
Recommendations submitted to Larry are attached.
Phil reported on analogs he had contacted.
Hameline proved to be a useful analog for "connective
tissue" (provost, university council for strategic
issues, not governance; independence of entities
very important). SUNY Binghamton and Christopher
Newport were not useful analogs. Johns Hopkins
had not replied at that time.
Recommendations were made for a Fredericksburg
campus replacement for Mehdi.
Recommendations for consultants to
serve on visiting team: Barbara Loftus (Pam Hopkins),
Jerry Greiner from Hameline (Phil Hall), Ed Simpson
(Phil Hall).
We will search archival data for
our November meeting.
Task for next meeting, Wednesday,
October 17, 2001, 4 p.m., JMC conference room:
Find a couple of new analogs.
