SACS-COC Self-Study Steering
Committee Meeting: January 17, 2001 |
1) Morello: John gave a presentation on his
recent Alternative Self-study visit. He gave
us an overview of lessons learned, pitfalls to avoid,
and an overview of the process. Some of the
lessons learned included:
- Coordination between the Strategic and compliance
reports is important, data needs to be consistent.
- However, need to avoid, or acknowledge overlap
between the two.
- Make sure we come to closure and make recommendations
re: the future
- Don't just document what we've done, define
action plans, make specific recommendations.
- Identify consultants early, get them to agree
and get he SACS process to get them on-board
started early, be at least a year ahead, i.e.
February 2002.
- Include a copy of the original proposal to
the consultants, make sure we've re-visited
it and connected to it.
- Build in time, when they are here, for them
to work together as a team.
- Make sure meetings are well planned.
- Make sure a clear mandate about being open
is in-place.
- Get clear about what we want or need from
them.
- Their visit is a major logistical challenge,
have a leader assigned to this task.
- Establish clear indices.
- The Chair of the visit will be on the compliance
team.
- Six month lead on reports to SACS.
- Make sure recommendations are sustainable
and of substance.
