Minutes from the November 13, 2001 Meeting of the University Relations and Development Committee

Present: Rita Stone, Lea Ziobro, Liane Houghtalin, Cindy Snyder, Jeff Rountree, Margaret Mock, George Van Sant, Ron Singleton, Joe Nicholas, Mark Safferstone

The committee discussed methods for reviewing and summarizing the data that we now have for our report, due in the spring of 2002.  Two approaches were discussed:

• subcommittees formed to each focus on a source (focus group transcripts, COPLAC analogs, Mehfoud survey results, UR&D Committee/College Relations Office), or
• subcommittees formed to each focus on specific research questions and to collect data from all available sources.

Subcommittees were formed to each focus on a data source:

• Mehfoud survey:  George Van Sant and Rita Stone
• COPLAC analogs:  Cindy Snyder and Jeff Rountree
• Committee / College Relations Office:  Joe Nicholas and Ron Singleton
• Focus Groups:  Mark Safferstone, Lea Ziobro, Liane Houghtalin, Tara Corrigall, Margaret Mock

For the subcommittees to be able to begin their work, a complete list of questions would need to be put together.  Ron and Joe agreed to go back through all of the minutes of previous UR&D committee meetings and notes from the research subcommittee's work of August and September 2001 to come up with a complete list.

Finally, a timeline for the work ahead was established:
 

• November 16, 2001 - List of first draft questions sent by Joe to committee members
• November 27, 2001 (Tues.) - Meeting at Trench Hill, 4 PM, to discuss and refine questions.  Subcommittees will also determine the times and places for their discussions to take place as needed between this meeting an Jan. 15, 2002.
• January 15, 2002 - All subcommittees submit a report of their research to Joe by e-mail.
• January 16, 2002 - Joe sends out the complete set of reports to the entire committee.
• January 28, 2002 - Univ. Relations and Development Committee meeting, Trench Hill, 4 PM
• February 18, 2002 - Univ. Relations and Development Committee meeting, Trench Hill, 4 PM
