Gari Melchers Home and Studio to Offer Rose Pruning Workshop, June 24
May 16, 2007Fredericksburg, Va. – Gari Melchers Home and Studio will host a rose pruning workshop on Sunday, June 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. Grounds Preservation Supervisor Beate Jensen will select roses from the Belmont collection, and participants will learn how to cut and prepare a stem for rooting.
Follow-up care of the baby roses will be discussed, and a sample of the day’s work will go home with each attendee. Participants are asked to bring sharp bypass pruners if they have them, and all other materials will be provided.
The cost of the workshop is $10 for members of Friends of Belmont and $15 for non-members. To register, contact Beate Jensen at (540) 654-1839 or bjensen@umw.edu. Space is limited.
Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont is a 26-acre estate and former residence of the American figure painter Gari Melchers and his wife Corinne. The property, which is part of the University of Mary Washington, is both a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Va., a quarter mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 17, it is open daily with an admission charge.
