Gari Melchers Home and Studio to Offer Floral Workshop

June 6, 2007

Fredericksburg, Va. – Gari Melchers Home and Studio will host a floral interpretation and conditioning workshop presented by Di Cook on Wednesday, June 27, at 10 a.m. in the Studio Pavilion. In addition to being a member of the Garden Club of Virginia (GCV) and the Leesburg, Fauquier and Loudoun Garden Clubs, Ms. Cook is an artist and expert floral judge for the GCV.

Admission is $5 for members of Friends of Belmont and garden club members, and $10 for non-members. Reservations are not required.

The presentation will focus on the art of floral arranging and conditioning florals for long-lasting arrangements. In anticipation of the “Arts and Flowers” exhibit scheduled for August, it also will provide helpful tips on how to interpret the paintings of Gari Melchers through the language of flowers.

The Arts and Flowers exhibit, in conjunction with First Saturdays in the Garden, will feature a selection of 12 floral interpretations of paintings in the Belmont collection. A representative of each club of the Fredericksburg Council of Garden Clubs will study an assigned painting and design a floral arrangement. The completed arrangement will be placed next to its painted inspiration.

The gardens at Belmont have been restored by The Garden Club of Virginia with funds raised during Historic Garden Week.

Gari Melchers Home and Studio is a 27-acre estate and former residence of the artist Gari Melchers and his wife Corinne. The property, which is part of the University of Mary Washington, is both a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Va., a quarter mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 17, it is open daily with an admission charge. The museum website is www.GariMelchers.org.
