June 6, 2007

Fredericksburg, Va. – Gari Melchers Home and Studio will host a three-day children’s art class taught by local artist M.J. Bradley on August 14-16, from 10 a.m. to noon each day. The class fee, which includes all supplies, is $85 for members of Friends of Belmont and $100 for non-members. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.

Suitable for children ages 8 to 14, “Bringing Still Lifes to Life” will introduce students to color theory and mixing, composition and value using acrylic paints. One of Gari Melchers’ still lifes will be on display in the Studio, and an introduction to Gari Melchers’ artwork also will be included. Each student will take home two finished art pieces, including one on canvas.

The property, which is part of the University of Mary Washington, is both a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark. Located at 224 Washington St. in Falmouth, Va., a quarter mile west of the intersection of U.S. 1 and U.S. 17, it is open daily with an admission charge. The museum website is www.GariMelchers.org.
