HEERF III: Higher Education Emergency Relief fund from the American Rescue Plan
HEERF III: Emergency Grant Funding
As a result of Congress passing the American Rescue Plan, UMW has been allocated $3,960,747 in emergency student aid to assist eligible students who incurred “expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child-care expenses.”
HEERF III/ARP placed an emphasis on financial need. As a result in order to be eligible UMW students must have completed a 2021-22 FAFSA and have an expected family contribution (EFC).
A. On 8/2/2021 all Pell eligible students enrolled for fall 2021 were awarded $1,000.
B. Fall 2021: UMW Students who reached out to the office of financial aid with financial challenges as result of the pandemic were reviewed and awarded where applicable.
C. Spring 2022
A tiered distribution plan was established in part from the CARES/HEERF committee in alignment with the U.S. Department of Education’s guidance. Distribution was based on Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), housing and enrollment.
Tier 1: 0-5800; $750-$2,000 (Minimum 1 credit)
Tier 2: 5,801-10,000; $1,000-$1,500 (Minimum 6 credits)
Tier 3: 10,001-15,000; $500-$750 (Minimum 6 credits)
D. An application for HEERF III funds is now available for the spring 2022 semester.

B. An application is available for students to complete.
