Welcome to UMW! Here is some important information regarding your student’s Financial Aid:
- 2018-2019 FAFSA: The 2018-2019 FAFSA will be available on October 1st, 2017 at fafsa.ed.gov. It is recommended that students complete the FAFSA early to ensure they receive funding from all financial aid programs for which they are eligible. For example, Virginia State grants have limited funding, and are awarded based on FAFSA completion date until the grant funds are depleted.
- Electronic Consent to Receive Email Communication: All federal and state financial aid recipients must inform
UMW how they would like to receive required notices and disclosures throughout the year. This can be completed by the student in the MyUMW Eagle Gateway. Students may select “yes” to receive emails or “no” to receive paper mail to their campus mailbox. Students must confirm this selection each year.
- Title IV Authorization for Loan Recipients: Federal educational loans are for educational expenses such as tuition, required fees, and room and board. Students may complete the Title IV Authorization process through the MyUMW Eagle Gateway to allow their loan funds to also be used for miscellaneous charges such as library fines, parking tickets, etc. The authorization must only be completed once and will remain active throughout the student’s time at UMW.
- Student Employment: There are approximately 700 student employment positions across campus. Students may apply through the MyUMW Student Employment page. Hiring occurs throughout the year. Students are encouraged to reach out to any department for which they are interested in applying, as they would make the actual hiring positions.
Important Dates
Due to Federal privacy regulation (FERPA), the Office of Financial Aid is only permitted to speak to students, and individuals that they have designated a ‘delegated user.’ This allows Financial Aid Representatives to speak to the third party about financial aid requirements, and award status.
If leaving a voicemail for the Financial Aid staff, please leave a clear, concise message including the student’s name and student ID number. Please spell your last name. We will make every effort to return all voicemails and emails within 3 business days.
