The spring semester is an excellent time to raise the bar and develop an academic success strategy for the duration of the academic year.
Whether your student is a first-year returning for their second semester or an upper class student making progress towards graduation, please encourage your student to maximize their learning potential during the second half of the academic year in order to meet their academic and career goals. Academic Services offers numerous support programs and workshops geared towards academic success.
In January, Academic Services will be hosting a series of academic success workshops that are free for all students. While the workshop is required for all students on Academic Warning, any student is welcome to attend. Sessions will be held on Wednesday (1/16) at 8:15am and Thursday (1/17) at 4pm in Lee 411. Pre-registration is not required, but participants are encouraged to arrive ten minute early as space is limited. The Student Success Workshop will focus on key topics such as study strategies, building internal confidence, and developing a game plan for success. Presenters will include faculty, students, and academic advisors. Please contact 540-654-1010 for additional details.
Beyond the Student Success Workshop, we offer ongoing services to support a student’s personal needs and schedule availability. Programs include course-specific peer-tutoring and our Peer Academic Consultants, both of which are free for all students. For more information on any of our programs or to sign up for a session, please visit the UMW Peer Tutoring website.
Again, spring is a great time to start fresh and raise the academic success bar for the duration of the year. Please discuss the aforementioned programs and encourage your student to attend. If you have any questions, please contact the Academic Services office at 540-654-1010 we are here to help and look forward to supporting your student!
