Free Technology Resources Available for all UMW Students!
An important reminder to students is to maximize educational opportunities that are available to them while they are here at UMW, which includes the many technology resources that are available. UMW has more to offer than just a great education. Students have access to many different technologies throughout campus and they can even download some for free on their personal computers or devices. Encourage your student to take full advantage of all of the opportunities available to them!
On Campus Technology Resources
The Hurley Convergence Center (HCC) allows free check out of equipment with EagleOne cards, along with a number of other opportunities. The Advanced Media Production Studio can be found in the HCC.
The IT Help Desk provides support for technology-related problems or questions from the UMW community and is staffed by both full-time employees and part-time student aides.
The Digital Knowledge Center provides peer tutoring to all university students on digital projects and assignments. Students can schedule one-on-one or small group tutorials with a trained peer tutor on a variety of subjects relating to common systems, technologies, and tools used in courses at UMW.
Free Technology for Personal Devices
One piece of free technology that UMW offers students is the Microsoft Office Suite. The suite contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. The Microsoft Office Suite is a valuable tool for students to complete their schoolwork. Students can type papers, create spreadsheets, and create presentations with the programs available in the Suite. The suite is only available to students if they are active UMW students. Students can visit the Microsoft Office page through the UMW website for instructions on how to download for free on their personal device. Students can direct any questions about this free download of Microsoft Office to the UMW Help Desk.
Another free technology available for download at UMW is Read & Write. Read & Write is an easy-to-use literacy toolbar that has tools for reading, writing, and studying. The tool bar includes a read out loud tool, a grammar check-it tool, and highlighting tools. These tools can benefit students in all courses at UMW. Read & Write is only available to students if they are active UMW students. Students can visit the UMW Office of Disability Resources website and search for instructions on downloading Read & Write for free on their personal device.
