Curriculum
Piscopo Rodgers Science Fellows follow a special curriculum, designed to give them the foundation they need to start into research early in their time at UMW, and continue pursuing their passions in research through graduation. In the first two years, students will take the following courses. These research-intensive courses are covered by the PRSF scholarship:
STEM 101 Research Foundations & Methods (1 credit)
Introduction to STEM research fundamentals including research design, scientific method, and disciplinary methodologies. Students develop library research skills, AI fluency for research applications, and learn to read and analyze scholarly literature. Emphasis on fostering scientific curiosity and communication skills. [Fall only. Recommended for first semester]
STEM 102 Research Exploration and Shadowing (1 credit)
Students shadow researchers across multiple STEM departments to observe active research projects and methodologies. Through structured observations and reflections, students gain firsthand exposure to research cultures while developing professional observation skills and identifying potential research interests. [Spring only. Recommended for second semester]
STEM 201 Research Careers & Professional Development (1 credit)
