Rosemary Huff Arneson has been selected as the librarian for the University of Mary Washington. Arneson, who will begin work at UMW in January, will administer all aspects of library operations, including the university archives. She succeeds University Librarian Emeritus LeRoy S. Strohl III, who retired in May after 25 years at Mary Washington.
“I am excited that Rosemary Arneson will join the Mary Washington family,” said Provost Jay Harper. “She will bring experience, technical expertise and proven leadership to UMW libraries.”
Arneson has served as university librarian for Carmichael Library at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Ala., since 1999. In addition, she served as chair of the university’s web advisory committee and encouraged the library’s use of Web 2.0 technologies, such as Facebook, Flickr and the instant messaging platform Meebo.
Arneson has given numerous presentations addressing the use of technology in the library and in the classroom and has contributed to several regional publications, including the Encyclopedia of Alabama.
She has been involved in regional and national professional association work, recently serving as president of the Alabama Association of College and Research Libraries, and as chair of the Resource Sharing Committee of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries since 2008. She also is a member of the American Library Association.
Prior to working at Montevallo, Arneson served as director of Everett Library at Queens College in Charlotte, N.C. She also held positions at Fairfield University, James Madison University and Virginia State University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in librarianship from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.
