UMW Philharmonic Hosts Fifth Annual Independence Day Concert

The University of Mary Washington Philharmonic Orchestra performed its fifth annual Independence Day Spectacular concert on Wednesday, July 4 at Stafford County’s Pratt Park. The concert, which was free and open to the public, began at 8 p.m. and continued through the fireworks display.

The program featured patriotic favorites and Broadway hits, including a tribute to Henry Mancini and Richard Rodgers, the Battle Hymn of the Republic and a salute to the Armed Forces. Guest artist Sue Henderson sang several patriotic numbers with the orchestra, including “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful.” Personalities from radio station B101.5 WBQB-FM emceed the show.

The UMW Philharmonic, under the direction of Kevin Bartram, has brought orchestral music to the Fredericksburg area for more than 40 years. The award-winning group includes approximately 90 members from UMW and the community and holds several performances throughout the year.

  1. Dear UMW,

Once I am enrolled in music classes, I would like to perform with the UMW orchestra. It may take me a couple of years, but it would be a thrill! I am a vocalist. I have videos under “abbe buck” on YouTube, or Abbe Buck, vocalist on Facebook.

    Much Thanks!
