The University of Mary Washington Theatre will open its 2015-16 season with Noises Off on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Performances will take place Sept. 24-26 and Oct. 1-3 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 27 and Oct. 3-4 at 2 p.m. in Klein Theatre, located in duPont Hall on the university’s Fredericksburg campus. A classic play
within a play, Noises Off, by Michael Frayn, is a comedy about a cast of substandard actors and the rehearsal, performance and closing of Nothing On, a quintessential British bedroom romp. With missed cues, forgotten lines and far too many sardines, the company of this farce within a farce gives an in-depth look at show production.
Noises Off first premiered at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, London in 1982. It opened to ecstatic reviews and transferred to
Savoy Theatre on the West End where it ran until 1987 and won the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy. Noises Off is directed by Gregg Stull, professor and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and Department of Music. Scenic and lighting designs are by Associate Professor Julie Hodge and guest designer Catherine Girardi, respectively. Costume design is by Associate Professor Kevin McCluskey and sound design is by guest designer Jon K. Reynolds.
Tickets are $18 for standard admission and $16 for students, senior citizens and military. For further information, call the Klein Theatre Box Office at 540-654-1111 or visit www.fredtix.com.
