UMW Alert: This message initiates the 10:15 a.m. Great Southeast Shakeout earthquake drill and UMW Alert test.

Get ready to Shakeout! The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill is happening this Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:15 a.m. (that’s 10/15 at 10:15), and UMW will participate by testing our emergency notification system. Be prepared for a brief disruption on Thursday morning and visit the Great ShakeOut website for more information about how to prepare for and respond to an earthquake.

You may receive emergency notifications through UMW Alert text messages, emails, desktop alerts, phone calls and/or messages from the campus area warning system. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate by 1) dropping, 2) covering, and 3) holding on during this annual drill.

Students, faculty and staff are automatically enrolled in UMW Alerts with contact information registered with the University, including UMW email address and individual cell phone numbers. For more information or to update your contact information, visit the UMW Alerts page on the website.

The annual Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill is an opportunity to increase awareness of and practice what to do during an earthquake. Classes, clubs, and residence halls can participate by reviewing the Earthquake Emergency Guide and practicing basic safety steps during the drill.

Please contact Director of Emergency Management, Kevin Coleman, kcolema5@umw.edu, with any questions.
