Academic Degrees

B.A. in Psychology: University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2010); M.S., Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology; University of Louisville (2015, 2018)

Dr. Marcus Leppanen is a cognitive psychologist trained in experimental psychology. He completed his doctorate at the University of Louisville studying the process of memory for prior remembering (i.e., the ability to remember that you previously remembered something, like a story you told a friend). During his post-doctoral fellowship at Wesleyan University he expanded his research interests to include the effects of self-referential thinking on memory, the role of emotional context in memory for prior remembering, and individual differences in mindfulness and absorption. Current projects include: 1) Measuring the relationship between individual differences in rumination, anxiety, and depression with the accuracy of memory for prior remembering and 2) Investigating the role of object ownership on memory performance. Other research interests include: the measurement and assessment of handedness, and how handedness behavior is associated with memory performance, the relationship between context and memory for prior remembering, and individual differences in cognition (e.g., attention).

His research has been published in Memory; Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain, and Cognition; and Brain and Cognition. He frequently attends the Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society and the Annual Meeting of the Association for Psychological Science.

His teaching interests include: Research Methods, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Human Memory.
